Our latest project is a contemporary new build family home that has been transformed through expressive colour, tactile natural materials and beautifully crafted joinery. The brief began as a simple request to refresh the main living/dining room and the existing kitchen, retaining the original carcasses while introducing new bespoke doors. As the design process evolved, the clients chose to extend the same level of care and creativity through the entire home. The result is a full home transformation that brings together personality, comfort and intelligent, efficient storage in every room.
What started as a modest kitchen update soon developed into a richer and more personal redesign as Amanda and Peter realised the potential within their home. The contemporary shell was there, but the existing finishes, peeling laminate doors and mismatched storage did not reflect their taste or lifestyle. Together, we created a vision that elevated what they already had and shaped a home that feels expressive, warm and grounded in who they are.
The kitchen refresh set the direction. New bespoke doors introduced a confident, modern look, proving that thoughtful design can transform a space without the need for major construction. We also raised the family’s peninsular table to meet the height of the rest of the kitchen worktops and paired it with modern stools, creating a relaxed space where everyone naturally gravitates.
From here, the project flowed gently into the rest of the home. Storage was a central theme for Amanda, who had a clear vision of what she needed and what had never quite worked. We designed a blend of fitted and freestanding furniture that gave every room its own character while keeping the overall flow calm and cohesive.
The study was one of the most rewarding transformations. What had once been a collection of freestanding bookcases became a tailored birch ply and walnut storage system that now sits beautifully under the angled ceilings, creating a peaceful and highly functional workspace.
In the bedrooms, we replaced wardrobe doors and introduced new fabrics, wallpapers and subtle paint zoning to add softness and gentle drama. The master ensuite became a luxurious sanctuary after we removed a stud wall to create a spacious walk in shower and refined the layout. The guest ensuite, which had a very limited footprint, was cleverly reworked using space efficient fixtures such as a wall hung toilet and a bifolding shower door.
Throughout the home, Amanda’s love of deep navy, warm timber and bold pattern became the backbone of the material palette. Black hardware added structure and contrast while expressive wallpapers and textured fabrics brought warmth and personality. These choices made the home feel unique without being overwhelming. Her own wildlife photography was curated and framed as part of the scheme, adding a layer of meaning that makes each room feel like a true reflection of the family.
The project naturally came with its challenges. Retrofitting new doors to existing wardrobes and kitchen cabinetry required accuracy. Working with angled ceilings called for careful craftsmanship. Achieving crisp lines with paint zoning and wallpaper demanded time and precision. And the compact ensuite required intelligent planning to make every centimetre count. These are the details we love working through and they are exactly what bring a project to life.
The finished home is sociable, characterful and deeply personal. Every space invites you in. It is modern and expressive, yet still warm, accessible and easy to live in. Above all, it feels like a home created with and for the people who live there.
