Because the journey to your dream kitchen shouldn’t undo you.
A kitchen renovation is exciting… until the day work begins and your home suddenly transforms into a building site. The kettle is in the hallway, the fridge is in the dining room, and you’re wondering where on earth you’ve put the teaspoons.
The good news? It doesn’t have to feel chaotic.
With the right preparation and a few insider tips from our clients and team, you can move through your kitchen installation feeling calm, organised and even a little inspired. At Cymru Kitchens, we’ve supported hundreds of families through the entire transformation. Here are the five things they wish they’d known before the journey began.
1. Create a functional temporary kitchen
Almost every client tells us this is the game-changer.
“We set up a mini kitchen in the living room with a toaster, air fryer and a box of essentials. It saved us.” Cymru Kitchens client, Monmouth
Choose a space that can stay relatively dust-free such as a bedroom, dining room or utility room. Set up a small “survival station” with:
kettle, toaster, microwave or air fryer
chopping board and knife
cereal bowls, plates and mugs
a washing-up bowl to make cleaning easy
We also offer a Temporary Fix service to keep essential appliances, such as your washing machine, up and running during installation. Speak to our team for details.
2. Protect the rooms you’re living in
Our team works hard to minimise dust, noise and disruption, but renovations naturally come with a little mess.
As a member of our team suggests:
“If you can, move furniture out of high-traffic areas. We’ll do the rest - floor protection, dust sheets, the lot.”
Close doors where possible, consider using an air purifier if you have one and try to keep one designated “clean room” for your own peace of mind.
3. Stay stocked up with easy meals
Now is not the moment to become a gourmet chef.
Clients consistently tell us that simple, quick meals are their saving grace. Think:
one-pan oven meals
pre-chopped vegetables
slow-cooker or Thermomix recipes
anything that works in the microwave or air fryer
This is also a brilliant excuse to enjoy eating out or try local independent takeaways. And don’t forget snacks… lots of snacks.
4. Keep communication open with your installers
A smooth installation relies on clear communication.
At Cymru Kitchens, your designer and lead joiner will keep you updated throughout the process so you always know what to expect. Ask questions, request daily progress updates and share any concerns early - that’s what we’re here for. Our goal is to make your installation as stress-free as possible.
5. Focus on the end result (and take photos!)
It’s easy to get lost in the temporary chaos, but the transformation is always worth it.
A recent client said:
“There was dust everywhere and I thought, ‘What have we done?’ But the final reveal… it honestly took my breath away.”
Take before-and-after photos, celebrate milestones and remind yourself daily that you’re creating the heart of your home.
And a bonus tip from Max, one of our lead joiners:
“Don’t forget - this could also be a great excuse to go on holiday! Many clients book this time to go away and return to the completed kitchen of their dreams.”
With the right support and preparation, living through a kitchen installation doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. Trust the process, lean on our team and look forward to the moment you walk into your beautifully crafted Cymru Kitchen for the very first time.
